The Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff situation is getting a bit clearer - but there are still lots of possibilities for final standings.At the top of the heap, Quyon Combat Flyers (11-0-3) and Kars Aces (10-4-0) both have four games left and they will finish first and second, with the order to be determined. The big difference maker will likely be the doubleheader between the two teams in Quyon for which a time is being found to play these make up games. Kars also has games against Stittsville and Barrhaven, while Quyon has two to make up against Carp.
In the middle of the pack, it's a log jam with Barrhaven Broadway Blues (7-7-3), Carp I4C Victory (6-9-0), Ottawa Blitz (6-9-2), and Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric (6-10-1) all very close in the standings. Barrhaven, with one game left against Kars, will either finish third or fourth. If Barrhaven wins the final game against Kars they clinch third. The only team that can catch the Blues is Carp, who would have to run the table with wins in their remaining three games - two against Quyon and one against Fitzroy. However, I4C could fall as far as sixth, if the lose all three remaining games. The Blitz could finish as high as fourth if they get help and win their remaining game against Stittsville, but the Blitz could fall as low as sixth if they lose. If Fitzroy wins their last game against Carp and gets help, they too could finish as high as fourth, but a loss means they finish sixth.
Stittsville 56ers (4-11-1) could tie Fitzroy in points, but given the head to head record between the two teams, the 56ers will finish the season in seventh place.
The GOFL playoffs in 2011 work as follows:
First round, best of five, to be played during the month of August: 2nd vs 7th, 3rd vs 6th, 4th vs 5th. First place gets a bye.
The winners of the first round and the first place team advance to a double knockout "Final Weekend" playoff tournament to determine the league champion. It will be played on September 9 and 10 in Quyon.
